Court urged to bar govt from appointing new NAB chief

LAHORE:The Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday adjourned the plea to stop the immediate appointment of the chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for indefinite period due to the non-appearance of the petitioner’s lawyer, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The court also directed to club the plea with the petition filed earlier against the appointment of Raja Riaz as Opposition Leader. Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi had heard the petition of a citizen named Munir Ahmed. The federal government and others had been made parties in the petition. “The NAB chairman is to be appointed in consultation with the prime minister and the opposition leader,” the petitioner had said.

“The petition against the nomination of the opposition leader is pending in the court. The situation in the National Assembly is also changing, and the Leader of the Opposition may be changed,” he had added. “Consultation with the opposition leader for the appointment of the NAB chairman is meaningless and illegal. The process for appointing the new NAB chairman should be stopped until the final decision about the opposition leader,” he had demanded.
