ISLAMABAD:In an important development in the Nikkah case of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, a local court in Islamabad Tuesday declared the petition challenging the solemnizing of the marriage contract of the couple during bride’s Iddat (waiting) period admissible. Judicial Magistrate Qudratullah announced the reserved verdict. The court issued notices to PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi for July 20 hearing.
A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Thursday overturned a previous decision made by a civil judge, who had rejected a petition challenging the validity of the nikkah between the PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Sessions Judge Azam Khan issued a detailed verdict, remanding the case back to the civil court. The judge instructed the court to reevaluate the case, considering all legal aspects.
The initial petition, filed by Muhammad Hanif, sought to declare the marriage between the former prime minister and Bushra Bibi as illegal because the couple contracted Nikkah during the Iddat period of Bushra Bibi. On May 13, Civil Judge Nasir Minullah deemed the petition inadmissible.
