Congress calls for accountability over 2019 Kashmir attack revelations

Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, has demanded urgent responses from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding serious allegations made by former Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik related to the 2019 Pulwama attack and corruption claims.

According to a Kashmir Media Service report on Saturday, speaking to reporters in Jammu, Tiwari expressed concern over the BJP leadership’s continued silence, suggesting it indicates ‘something fishy.’ He pointed out that Malik, who served as IIOJK governor under the BJP administration, highlighted intelligence failures and said that the government denied air transport for the movement of forces’ personnel, which contributed to the deadly attack that claimed the lives of 40 soldiers.

Calling for clarity on Malik’s assertions, Tiwari emphasized the need for answers regarding corruption linked to power projects and insurance schemes in IIOJK. He described Malik’s revelations as alarming, saying that the Prime Minister had instructed him to remain silent after the tragic incident.

Tiwari also raised questions about the smuggling of RDX into IIOJK, demanding accountability for New Delhi’s response to the apparent security lapse. ‘As a nation, we need answers. How was RDX smuggled into J and K? Why didn’t the government provide air transport for our soldiers? These allegations are not coming from the opposition but from a governor appointed by the BJP,’ he stated.

Additionally, Tiwari said that Malik had been offered substantial sums to favor influential business interests, implying that IIOJK’s transition to a Union Territory was aimed at facilitating the exploitation of its natural resources by the BJP’s allies. He criticized the lack of conclusions from the investigation into the Pulwama attack after five years, labeling it a sign of governmental incompetence.
