QUETTA: Dr Rubaba Khan Buledi, Parliamentary Secretary for Science, Information Technology, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, while expressing concern over increasing maternal mortalities in the province, has said maternal mortality rate in Balochistan was higher than other sister provinces.

Talking to Dr. Asfand Yar Sherani, regional head, World Health Organization (WHO), Anum Arif, Consultant, WHO and Dr. Sermud Saeed, Deputy Head, MNCH who called on her here on Tuesday, she said that in order to control the alarming situation, it was being deliberated upon to frame laws which would accordingly be placed before Balochistan Provincial Assembly for legislation after seeking approval of the competent standing committee of Balochistan Provincial Assembly.

She added that stoppage in growing height and weights in children were the symptoms of malnutrition. Praising the technical assistance of WHO to contain maternal mortality in the province, she said that framing of laws for controlling maternal mortality in Balochistan was inevitable.
