Gilgit:Three-day colorful Shandur Polo Festival continues at the world rooftop as a large number of local and foreign tourists participated on the second day of the fair.
According to reports, the festival started on July 7 in Shandur Valley and will be continued until July 9 to entertain the participants coming from various parts of the country at large.
Shandur Polo Festival is an amazing festival celebrated by the tribes of Gilgit and Chitral in the northern parts of the country. The tribes from the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral meet at the Shandur pass every summer.
On the second day of colorful celebrations, the festival started with the national anthem. The bands of Frontier Corps and Gilgit-Baltistan presented the tunes of national songs. The local artists also performed Waziristan dance and national songs.
Paragliders also performed stunts at the event. The stunt paragliders leaped from mountain tops, swooped over waterfalls, and did flying dangerously close to the ground. Three matches were played between different teams on the second day of the Shandur Polo Festival.
The audience enjoyed polo matches on the second day of the festival. The civil and military officials besides a large number of local people, and other guests also attended the fair.
Summer and autumn are considered ideal for exploring the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.
The pass has a beautiful polo ground where unique wild free-style polo is used to play among different teams of the region. Shandur Polo Ground is considered to be the highest polo ground in the world at 3,700 meters.
The polo ground is adjacent to Shandur Lake. The festival provides an amazing cultural experience in the Hindukush mountain ranges.
