Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah declared that Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations this year will center on “Marqa-e-Haq” (Battle of Rights), referencing India’s alleged conspiracy in May and Pakistan’s firm reaction.
Speaking at the “My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony Exhibition 2025” at the Expo Centre, Shah emphasized the national unity displayed during the crisis. “We stood together for the defense of Pakistan and triumphed,” he stated. The event, attended by government officials, business leaders, and civil society members, marked the beginning of provincial Independence Day festivities.
Shah traced Pakistan’s journey from its peaceful inception in 1947 under Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to the 1971 separation. He lauded the leadership of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, crediting them with bolstering Pakistan”s nuclear and missile capabilities, respectively. To symbolize the triumph over India”s purported actions, the Chief Minister ceremonially cut a cake, embodying the theme of this year”s Independence Day commemorations.
Commending the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for organizing the “My Karachi” exhibition, Shah acknowledged the event”s growth since its inception in 2004 amidst challenging circumstances. He noted advancements in Karachi”s security, stating that while street crime persists, the situation has significantly improved. Referring to a 2015 World Bank assessment that identified a need for Rs3 trillion to enhance Karachi”s living standards, Shah outlined various development initiatives, including the Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Project and the Competitive and Liveable City of Karachi (CLICK) project.
He also mentioned improvements in waste management and the introduction of electric buses. Addressing Karachi’s persistent water shortage, Shah stressed the importance of completing the K-IV water supply project and securing additional resources with assistance from the federal government. Affirming national unity, he emphasized that all political factions would jointly commemorate Independence Day. Shah concluded by extending Independence Day greetings to the nation and reaffirming the government”s dedication to Karachi”s well-being.
