CM Naqvi emphasizes research for better crop production

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday said that the provincial government had taken some important steps for improvement in the education system.

Addressing a function at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), he said it was heartening that the university’s researchers had developed a wheat seed. “The credit goes to the university for making this happen,” he said, and added, “Presently there is an issue of soybean in the country.”

He said that nothing was possible in the world without research. “This year cotton production in the province is three times more than last year,” the chief minister informed. He was of the view that advancement in agriculture sector could bring revolution in the country. “I will provide to agriculture experts whatever they ask me,” CM Naqvi assured.

Besides wheat seed, he went on to say, new sugarcane seed had also been developed which would help get three times more production per acre of land. “We don’t have to do anything else. We have just to develop best seeds for crops,” he said, adding, “Faisalabad is known for pulses. We are making efforts to bring prices of pulses down.”
