Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced a new digital portal for the "Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat" initiative, designed to offer interest-free loans for the repair of deteriorating houses throughout the province.
According to Radio Pakistan, this project is named in memory of the children who perished in the Kahna roof collapse incident. During the launch ceremony, Maryam Nawaz Sharif explained that the scheme will allow eligible citizens to access an interest-free loan of up to five hundred thousand rupees for repairing and strengthening weak roofs. Additionally, loans of up to one million rupees are available for constructing additional rooms or second floors.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the primary goal of the project is to safeguard low-income families from the dangers posed by unsafe buildings, thereby preventing loss of life and property.
