Chief Justice Pledges Support For Balochistan Legal Community

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi announced enhanced training opportunities for female lawyers and infrastructure improvements for the legal community in Quetta during his visit to the Supreme Court Branch Registry.

Accompanied by several justices, including Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Musarrat Hilali, and Shakeel Ahmed, the CJP joined the Chief Justice and judges of the Balochistan High Court at a ceremony hosted by the Supreme Court Bar, High Court Bar, and District Bar Associations.

The gathering included prominent legal figures such as Supreme Court Bar Association President Rauf Atta Advocate, Balochistan High Court Bar Association President Attaullah Langove, and Quetta District Bar Association President Qari Rahmatullah, along with representatives from various lawyer organizations.

Addressing the assembly, CJP Afridi emphasized the crucial collaboration between the judiciary and legal practitioners, calling it essential for a robust justice system. He expressed his pleasure at being back in Quetta, referring to it as ‘a home away from home.’

The CJP engaged directly with legal professionals, addressing their concerns. He announced that sixty female lawyers, thirty each from Quetta and Makran, will receive specialized training at the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad. He urged dedication and cooperation to ensure efficient justice delivery.

CJP Afridi also committed to enhancing facilities at the Supreme Court Branch Registry in Quetta. This includes providing space for a bar room and establishing a facilitation center to better serve legal professionals and litigants.

Later, the CJP met with a committee representing Bar Councils to discuss the financial hurdles faced in implementing mandatory training for new advocates, as mandated by a Supreme Court judgment. The committee, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council Vice Chairman Ahmed Farooq Khattak, Balochistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Rahib Khan Buledi, and Legal Education Committee Chairman Qasim Ali Gojizai, agreed to collaborate with the Directors General of Judicial Academies and the Pakistan Bar Council”s Director of Legal Education to create a feasible 15-day training curriculum.

The day concluded with a renewed commitment from the judiciary and the bar to bolster legal education and improve access to justice.
