HARNAI: Dad Muhammad Tarin, Chairman, Harnai Woolen Mill, has called on the authorities either to establish a Cadet College on the site of dysfunctional Harnai Woolen Mill or Harnai Woolen Mill be functionalized afresh, so that job opportunities to the unemployed youth of Harnai, a backward area of Balochistan, could be provided.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah accorded approval for construction of Harnai Woolen Mill in 1948, adding that the foundation stone of Harnai Woolen Mill was laid by former Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan in 1949 by awarding contract to Gemen Company for construction of Harnai Woolen Mill. He said mill started production in 1976, adding that about 1400 employees were working in Harnai Woolen Mill, adding that the said mill was closed by the government on February 10, 1988 and during the year 2001, the said mill was auctioned. He said that Harnai Woolen Mill seemed derelict, adding that land of Harnai Woolen Mill was required to be utilized.
