Broadband Connectivity Through Satellite Integral to Pakistan’s Digital Strategy: Shaza

Islamabad: The Senate was informed today that broadband connectivity through satellite is a critical element of Pakistan's digital strategy. Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja elaborated on this in a written reply, highlighting the development of key regulatory frameworks.

According to Radio Pakistan, Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board has prepared the draft of Satellite Communications Regulations, while the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has developed the Fixed Satellite Services Licensing framework. This framework is anticipated to be presented to the Federal Cabinet soon.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that the Fixed Satellite Services licensing framework will facilitate satellite broadband, bandwidth provision, and corporate data services, contributing to a comprehensive satellite-enabled connectivity ecosystem. She noted that the proposed regulatory framework aligns with international best practices, promoting a transparent and investment-friendly environment.

Furthermore, Shaza Fatima revealed that several leading global satellite operators, including SpaceX, OneWeb, Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, and Sateliot, have expressed interest in entering the Pakistani market, which could significantly bolster the country's digital infrastructure.

In a related note, Minister of State for Climate Change Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal informed the Senate that eight hundred million rupees have been allocated under the up-scaling Green Pakistan program for the development of the National Botanical Garden. The House has been adjourned to reconvene on Monday at four in the afternoon.
