QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Thursday imposed a ban on private passenger buses in the provincial capital on orders of the Balochistan High Court (BHC).
The BHC had imposed a ban on private buses after the launch of Green Line Bus service in Quetta. Following court orders, the private bus owners staged a protest and parked their buses on Saryab Raod. They demanded the government to lift ban on private bus service.
It is pertinent to mention here that eco-friendly bus service was launched in Quetta in July this year, making it the government’s first-ever inter-city bus service. The buses, part of the Green Bus Service, will be operated on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
The service was inaugurated not by a minister or bureaucrat but by a common man who was invited to cut the ribbon by Chief Minister Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo.
The ceremony, attended by CM’s Adviser on Transport Malik Naeem Bazai, Chief Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili and other officials, was held in the Takatu area near Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS).
