Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep regret on Saturday that Balochistan’s vast natural resources remain largely unexploited, stressing that Pakistan’s progress is critically dependent on the active involvement of the province’s people in the national development journey.

Addressing participants at the ‘Balochistan Workshop’ in the capital, the Prime Minister described Balochistan as a unique province, distinguished by its rich history, culture, and traditions. He noted that it is geographically the largest province and the only one that voluntarily chose to join the federation, a testament to the historic decision of its leaders.

The premier lauded the people of Balochistan, describing them as generous, hospitable, and peace-loving. He highlighted the province’s long-standing role in welcoming refugees and maintaining enduring harmony among its diverse communities.

However, Mr. Sharif acknowledged that the region’s difficult terrain has posed serious developmental challenges, particularly in extending essential services like electricity and road networks to remote areas. ‘Without a strong road infrastructure, progress in education and industry is not possible,’ he asserted, linking the province’s advancement directly to Pakistan’s overall prosperity.

Reflecting on past oversights, the Prime Minister said that decades of neglecting Balochistan should serve as a moment for national self-reflection. He emphasized that the spirit of the federation is founded on mutual sacrifice and brotherhood.

Recalling a past gesture of solidarity, he mentioned that Punjab made a historic sacrifice during the 2010 NFC Award, stating, ‘We are Pakistanis first and members of provinces later.’

Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed serious concern over the recent resurgence of terrorism in Balochistan and other parts of the country, paying tribute to the security forces who continue to lay down their lives for peace.

‘We must pledge to work together for Pakistan’s progress,’ he urged. ‘The people of Balochistan are our brothers, and their inclusion in the nation’s development journey will make Pakistan a truly great country,’ the Prime Minister concluded.
