Balochistan CM hands over keys of 250 houses to flood affectees

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday handed over the keys of 250 houses, constructed by the Kashmir Orphans Relief Trust (KORT), to flood-affected families in Quetta, Pishin, Killa Saifullah, and Suhbatpur districts.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the chief minister lauded the efforts of KORT, describing such NGOs as a “ray of hope” for the people of Balochistan. He assured maximum support and cooperation for organizations like KORT, emphasizing the crucial role they play in providing relief.

Bugti pointed out that several rehabilitation projects initiated by the federal government in flood-affected areas remain incomplete. He suggested that if these projects were transferred to the provincial government, they could be completed within eight to nine months through public-private partnerships.

Following the model set by the Sindh government under the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Bugti announced that houses would also be constructed for flood affectees in Balochistan. Additionally, he revealed plans to establish a state-of-the-art institute for orphaned boys and girls in the province, with the government allocating land for the project free of cost.

He expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people, acknowledging the support they have received from KORT in return during difficult times. “Balochistan is changing, will change, and we all must work together to set it on the path of development,” Bugti said.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Provincial Ministers Mir Muhammad Saleem Khosa and Mir Asim Kurd Gilo, Parliamentary Secretary Haji Barakat Rind, Vice Chairman of the Balochistan Board of Investment and Trade Bilal Khan Kakar, Commissioner Quetta Division Hamza Shafqaat, and senior PPP leader Syed Iqbal Shah.
