Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that two leaderships are running in Karachi: one that only talks and holds press conferences, and the other, which is our leadership, works and fulfills its promises.
According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporatrion today, the journey of Karachi’s development started under the “teer”(arrow) symbol of Bilawal Bhutto. Our promise is our intention, and the entire leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is before the public.
Our manifesto was to serve the people and to soon end the sense of deprivation in Karachi, including Lyari. KMC has written a letter to all departments regarding road cutting to ensure the proper use of funds. Bahria Town has no direct connection with the Sindh government, and its payment is being made to the Supreme Court under the court’s decision. We will never support illegal constructions or China cutting. Lyari is the pride and honor of the PPP.
He made these remarks after inaugurating the renovation and upgradation of the Bakra Piri Pumping Station in the Singho Lane area of Lyari. Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Parliamentary Leader of the City Council Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, local leadership of PPP, and members of the City Council were also present on this occasion.
Wahab said that the inauguration of development works in Keamari was done yesterday, and today it is being done in Lyari. The long-standing sewage problem of Lyari was solved by PPP. New machinery has been brought to the Bakra Piri pumping station. The PPP chairman, Bilawal Bhutto, promised to lay the K-3 pipeline in Lyari, and the work on the elevated line infrastructure has started. The promise made by Bilawal Bhutto regarding the K-3 pipeline will be fulfilled soon.
He further stated that in terms of road cutting, around 1.25 billion rupees have come to Lyari Town, and these funds will be used soon for the construction of roads here. We will stop the theft of water in Lyari.
The work to bring additional water to Karachi through a new canal from the Hub Dam is also in progress, and by August, an additional 40 million gallons of water per day will be available, solving the water scarcity issue in many districts of Karachi, including Lyari. He emphasized that the PPP will continue to work for the people, and this is proven by the fact that whenever the PPP has had power, it has served the people. PPP has established a university in Lyari, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases center, and built the high-quality Kakri Ground in Lyari. Lyari has always been the stronghold of PPP and will remain so. If anyone is envious of this, let them be; the truth remains. Every worker of the PPP is working and will continue to work on the manifesto of public service.
Mayor Karachi added that we do not support illegal constructions, and the Sindh Building Control Authority is under the control of the Minister for Local Government. We will raise the issue of illegal constructions in front of the local government minister.
As for the 14 billion rupees payment notice given to Bahria Town by the Water Corporation, the law will take its course. KMC and towns will receive funds from road cutting, and our promise is that we will take whatever steps are necessary for the improvement of Karachi’s infrastructure. The journey of serving Karachi under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will continue.
