Authority to Issue Road-Cutting Permissions Withdrawn From Towns, KMC Officials in Karachi

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting at the Chief Minister House to address civic issues in Karachi, directing officials to implement solutions for key urban challenges.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Waqar Mehdi, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, Chairman P and D Najam Shah, Secretary Local Government Khalid Hyder Shah, and other officials.

The Chief Minister directed assistant commissioners to monitor drainage, sanitation, and illegal parking issues through a dedicated monitoring system. He also announced the launch of a portal where assistant commissioners and deputy commissioners will be required to upload reports on drainage, encroachments, and sanitation matters.

He emphasized the need to streamline road-cutting permissions, stating that only the Karachi Mayor or Commissioner will have the authority to grant approvals. A new executive order will prevent town or KMC officers from directly issuing road-cutting permits.

Security measures for Ramadan were also discussed. The Chief Minister instructed the Chief Secretary to enhance police patrolling in the city. He highlighted the importance of facilitating citizens as they visit markets for Eid shopping and directed officials to ensure proper street lighting, traffic management, and security arrangements.

He further directed that the ongoing water pipeline installation in Lyari be completed at the earliest. Additionally, Karachi’s key markets will undergo beautification efforts, with four markets to be completed by the end of the current fiscal year.

After Eid, the authorities have been instructed to initiate the removal of soft encroachments in the city.
