The Attorney General for Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, revealed on Monday that he had cancelled his scheduled trip to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), citing heightened national focus on India’s unilateral actions against Pakistan.

The Attorney General was originally set to depart for The Hague today (Monday); however, in light of the recent developments regarding India’s war hysteria, he decided to remain in the country.

Officials said the decision was made to ensure that legal and diplomatic responses to the situation could be coordinated effectively.

During the hearing of a case, before the Supreme Court, related to the trial of civilians in military courts, the Attorney General stated that granting the right of appeal to those facing military trials is a ‘policy matter’, and that he could only present submissions before the court after receiving appropriate instructions from the government.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, a member of the constitutional bench, remarked that policy matters are for Parliament to decide, while the court’s focus would remain solely on the case under hearing.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired about the time needed for arguments, to which the Attorney General responded that he would be able to complete his arguments within 45 minutes. Subsequently, the court adjourned further hearings of the case until May 5.
