Army major martyred in gunbattle with terrorists

RAWALPINDI:Another major-rank officer of Pakistan Army was martyred in a gunbattle with a group of terrorists in Khyber District, an ISPR statement Thursday. According to the ISPR statement, personnel of security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Shakas area of Khyber District during the night between July 5 and 6 which resulted in a gunbattle with the terrorists who fired first at the raiding party.

While establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes of terrorists was underway, terrorists were spotted by Major Mian Abdullah Shah who was leading the operation from the front. As a result of heavy exchange of fire, the brave son of the nation, Major Mian Abdullah Shah, (aged 33 years, resident of Kohat) having fought gallantly, embraced Shahadat (martyrdom). The security forces, however, managed to arrest three terrorists and their facilitators from the area. Later, sanitization of the area was carried out to eliminate the terrorists present in the area.

The ISPR statement said that the security forces are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our soldiers further strengthen our resolve. Earlier on Tuesday, a vehicle-borne suicide bomber had exploded himself in Miranshah area of North Waziristan District. Resultantly, Naib Subedar Sahib Khan (aged 41 years, resident of Mianwali), Naik Muhammad Ibrahim (aged 40 years, resident of Dera Ismail Khan) and Sepoy Jehangir Khan (aged 24 years, resident of Mardan) embraced shahadat, while three innocent civilians got critically injured.

It may be mentioned here that Mian Abdullah Shah was the second major-rank officer of Pakistan Army who embraced martyrdom within the last three days. Three days back, Major Saqib Hussain was among two military personnel who embraced martyrdom when terrorists tried to ambush a combat patrol of security forces in the Balor area of Balochistan’s Hoshab district. As a result of heavy exchange of fire, Major Saqib Hussain and Naik Baqir Ali embraced martyrdom, while another soldier sustained injuries.
