The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) has completed a project to enhance the capacity of the Balochistan Assessment and Examination Commission (BAEC). Funded by the World Bank through the Balochistan Human Capital Investment Project, the project aimed to raise assessment standards and improve educational outcomes in the province.
Implemented through the Balochistan government’s Project Management Unit (PMU), the initiative involved experts from BAEC and the Bureau of Curriculum. The focus was on enhancing the institution’s ability to develop and administer large-scale assessments, incorporating accuracy, reliability, impartiality, and relevant methodologies into Balochistan’s examination processes.
The project was completed in four phases, each focusing on different aspects of quality assessment and testing. The phases emphasized practical guidelines, on-site training, and the application of theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.
A key output of the initiative is a comprehensive assessment framework and baseline survey for grades four and eight. These tools will guide assessment under the BAEC system and enhance daily instruction, learning, and assessment practices in Balochistan’s schools.
AKU-EB CEO, Dr. Naveed Yousuf, expressed the organization’s commitment to supporting public sector institutions in strengthening education systems internally. He emphasized the importance of fair assessment as a cornerstone of quality education.
At the closing ceremony, Aga Khan University’s Vice Provost, Professor Dr. Anjum Halai, highlighted the project’s broader educational impact. He noted that effective assessment positively influences teaching and classroom practices.
Balochistan’s Education Minister, Ms. Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani, lauded the collaboration between AKU-EB and BAEC as a prime example of institutional partnership. She emphasized the role of modern methodologies and digital tools in promoting examination transparency and strengthening institutional capacity.
Participants appreciated the project’s practical and hands-on approach, highlighting the opportunity to apply learned concepts practically.
This partnership between AKU-EB and BAEC establishes a valuable model for sustainable, evidence-based educational improvement in Balochistan by fostering technical expertise and contextually applicable strategies.
