Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal today directed the authorities concerned to ensure the provision of basic infrastructure in all Special Economic Zones in the country.
He was chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review progress of Special Economic Zones under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The Minister emphasized prioritizing the operationalization of existing Special Economic Zones over establishing new ones.
He called for devising a robust monitoring mechanism for these zones and stressed implementation of reforms to transform them into engines of economic growth. He also directed for ensuring investor facilitation to attract more investment.
Ahsan Iqbal identified political stability, continuity of policies, and reforms as the four key elements for sustainable development.
He directed the relevant officials to facilitate Chinese solar companies in initiating solar energy projects in Gilgit-Baltistan to address energy challenges of the region.
During the meeting, officials of Special Investment Facilitation Council provided a comprehensive briefing on the latest updates regarding the infrastructure and operational status of SEZs across the country.
