Agriculture – Consultation process with provinces begins to formulate Pakistan’s first comprehensive wheat policy

Islamabad has started consultations with provincial governments to formulate the country’s first comprehensive wheat policy. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, who heads the Ministry of Industries and Production and the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, met with Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain appreciated the efforts of the Chief Minister to help the flood victims. The meeting discussed the wheat policy in detail, focusing on strengthening the strategic wheat reserves for the coming year in the context of the devastation caused by the floods in Punjab. Officials also reviewed the wheat management framework and action plan. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed about the steps taken by the provincial administration to improve wheat cultivation in Punjab.
