AIT, Qatar Investment Authority, Onex Announce Partnership

PLANO, Texas, DOHA, Qatar, and TORONTO, Feb. 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — AIT (the “company”), together with its founding management and Onex Corporation (“Onex”) (TSX: ONEX), today announced that Qatar Investment Authority (“QIA”), the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar, through its affiliates, has agreed to acquire a minority interest in AIT, the world’s largest provider of factory automation to the aerospace, defense, and space launch sectors. The transaction is expected to close in 2022, subject to regulatory conditions and approvals.

QIA will acquire its interest in AIT through a combination of primary capital and partial sales by the company’s two existing shareholders, AIT’s founding management team and Onex Partners IV. Following the transaction, all three parties will assume minority joint ownership of the company.

President stresses to increase cooperation with Sri Lanka in diverse fields

President Dr Arif Alvi has emphasized the need for increasing cooperation in the areas of tourism, culture and defence between Pakistan and Sri Lanaka

He was talking to Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, who called on him, in Islamabad today (Tuesday).

The President said Pakistan attaches high values to its relations with Sri Lanka and wants to further improve bilateral cooperation with Colombo in all areas of mutual interests.

He said both countries have great potential to promote cultural cooperation and religious tourism. He said Pakistan has many Buddhists sites and Buddhists monks from Sri Lanka need to be encouraged to visit the religious sites.

While condemning the Sialkot incident, the President expressed grief over the unfortunate occurrence in which a Sri Lankan national was brutally killed. He said the government took prompt action against the accused involved in the incident.

The President highlighted the importance of CPEC and Gwadar Port which would promote regional connectivity as well as enhance trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Central Asian States, besides bringing economic prosperity to the region.

The President also highlighted the brutalities being committed by India against the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He informed that the persecution of minorities in India is a matter of serious concern.

Dr Arif Alvi said India is a belligerent neighbour and bent upon to disturb the peace of the entire region. He regretted that India due to its hegemonic designs does not want SAARC to function.

Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne thanked the Government of Pakistan for supporting Sri Lanka during difficult times. He also appreciated the action taken by the Government against the accused involved in the gruesome murder of Sri Lankan national. Pakistan doesn’t want to become part of any bloc: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said Pakistan does not want to become part of any bloc rather desires trading relations with all the countries to lift the people out of poverty.

In an exclusive interview with a Russian Television on the eve of his visit to Moscow, he pointed out that Pakistan has suffered in the past because of this politics of bloc. He said the last thing we want is the world divided into blocs.

The Prime Minister noted that greater cooperation between the US, China and Russia will benefit mankind much more than the conflict.

He hoped for peaceful resolution of Ukraine issue. He reiterated the military conflicts do not solve the problems.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan wants to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia and that he looks forward to his Moscow visit.

He pointed out that Pakistan is a gas deficient country. He said our North South Gas pipeline has suffered a delay because of the US sanctions on the Russian company we were negotiating for the construction of the pipeline.

He said the lifting of sanctions on Iran will also help Pakistan get the cheapest gas from the neighboring country.

When asked about relations with India, the Prime Minister said his government immediately reached out to India after coming to power in order to resolve the outstanding Kashmir dispute. He however regretted that India has been taken over the racist ideology inspired by Nazis.

To a question, the Prime Minister said climate change and illicit flow of money from poor countries to the developed world are the two major challenges faced by the world. He said the western countries should frame laws like they have on terror financing to check the illicit flows.

Pakistan wants to enhance multi-domain relations with Sri Lanka: COAS

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said Pakistan wishes to enhance long term multi-domain relations with Sri Lanka based on common interests.

He was talking to Commander of Sri Lankan Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, who called on him in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

General Bajwa reiterated that all regional countries need to work collectively for enduring peace and stability.

Matters of mutual interest, regional security and current Afghanistan situation were also discussed during the meeting.

The visiting dignitary lauded the professionalism of Pakistan Armed Forces and vowed to continue military cooperation between two Forces in defence, training and counter terrorism domains.

He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for border management and role in regional stability.

PM to launch e-passport service to facilitate people soon: Rashid

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch e-passport service to facilitate the people after his return from Russia.

Talking to the media persons in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said thirteen new passport offices will be established in Sindh whilst twenty eight Identity Card Stations of NADRA are also being established in the four provinces.

The Interior Minister reaffirmed the commitment to crush the foreign funded terrorists. He said Radd-ul-Fasaad operation secured the country and we pay tributes to the sacrifices of security personnel.

Regarding the upcoming visit of Australian cricket team, the Interior Minister said excellent arrangements have been made for their security.

As regards the political situation, Sheikh Rashid said the opposition parties will not get anything from their protest campaigns. He said there no confidence motion will also face defeat.
