KARACHI: Met office has said that on Thursday, widespread rain is expected in Balochistan and Sindh, while more rain with snow over the hills in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. Heavy rain/hailstorm is likely in Balochistan and upper Sindh during the period.

PAF C-130 carrying relief goods for Gwadar lands at Pasni airport

PASNI: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) C-130 carrying relief goods for the flood-affected areas of Gwadar landed at the Pasni airport, announced a PAF spokesperson on Thursday.

“PAF C-130 aircraft carrying relief goods for the flood affected areas of Gwadar, Balochistan, landed at Pasni airport today,” said DG PR of PAF. The PAF is taking part in the relief operations on the directive of the Government of Pakistan. “PAF aircraft airlifted more than 39,860 pounds of relief goods comprising food items, tents and medicines for the flood affectees of Gwadar, Balochistan,” said the spokesperson.

The recent flood in Gwadar has caused devastation in the low-lying areas and badly damaged the villages and infrastructure. “PAF has always responded to the call of the nation during natural calamities in addition to safeguarding the aerial frontiers of the country,” said the spokesperson.

Normal life is yet to resume in Gwadar following the raid induced flooding in the area. The flooding has inundated many areas, including roads, of the city. Apart from the PAF, the Pakistan Army and Coast Guard also took part in the relief operations for Gwadar. Along with these troubles, the Met Department has warned that the city may face more rain today.

COAS, Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff discuss regional security situation including Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

During the meeting, matters of regional security situation, mutual and professional interest with special emphasis on defence and security collaboration between the two brotherly countries were discussed.

Speaking on the occasion General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that we highly value our brotherly relations with Turkey which are deeply rooted in history and entrenched in our cultural and religious affinities.

He underscored the importance of peace and reconciliation initiatives in Afghanistan. He stressed upon the need for global convergence and sincere efforts to avert a looming humanitarian catastrophe.

Both sides agreed to further optimize military to military ties particularly in training and counter-terrorism domains. The visiting dignitary acknowledged the professionalism of Pakistan Armed Forces and vowed to enhance cooperation in various fields.

Later, Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in Islamabad on Thursday. During the meeting, both the dignitaries discussed matters of professional and mutual interest.

General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu commended the professionalism of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and acknowledged its rising indigenous capacity in aviation industry. The Air Chief said that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy longstanding religious, cultural and historical bonds which are manifested through strong ties between both air forces. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

Iran Air launches its direct flight from Mashad to Karachi

KARACHI: Iran Air, the national airline of Iran, has launched its direct flight from Mashad to Karachi, raising the number of Iran air monthly flights to Pakistan to 12, according to information on Thursday.

The flight of Iran Air landed at Jinnah International Airport of Karachi today at 15:20 p.m. local time. A ceremony was held at Karachi International Airport with the presence of Hassan Nourian, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Head of Iran Air office in Pakistan, and officials of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.

A cake was also cut on the occasion to welcome the new Iran Air flight in Pakistan. Hassan Nourian praised Iran Air’s efforts to increase the number of monthly flights to Pakistan and expressed confidence in increased bilateral cooperation in the field of aviation, tourism industry, and people-to-people contacts. The Airbus 320 of Iran Air left Karachi Airport for the holy city of Mashad at 4:23 p.m. local time with 138 passengers on board.

“With the direct flight from Mashad to Karachi, the number of Iran Air monthly flights from Iran to Pakistan and vice versa increased to 12 flights,” Mohammad Parsa Nejad, head of Iran Air Pakistan office, told IRNA. He added that Iran Air will have four flights from Mashad to Lahore, four flights from Tehran to Karachi, and four flights from Mashad to Karachi. On January 1st the first passenger flight of Iran Air landed in Lahore the cultural heart of Pakistan.

MPAs meet CM Buzdar

LAHORE: Different MPAs Lala Tahir Randhawa, Sabeen Gull Khan, Latasab Sati, Nadeem Qureshi and Muhammad Saleem met with Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office to discuss their constituency related problems. Front Desk facility introduced at seven police posts

Muzaffargarh: Front Desk facility has been introduced at seven police posts in far flung riverine areas of district Muzaffargarh to enable villagers avail online complaint registration and other facilities, a top police official said Thursday.

The initiative was part of government’s commitment to serve the people at their door step, DPO Faraz Ahmad said in a statement. The facility would enable villagers to get their complaints registered online, get copy of FIR, reporting missing person, registration of tenancy agreement, and conveying information regarding any offense/criminal activity, DPO said.

Well qualified and trained staff has been deputed at the front desks established at police posts including Shahpur in limits of PS Khairpur Sadaat, Mud Wala of PS Alipur Sadar, Rampur post of PS Jatoi, Shahwali and Daulat Pur posts of PS Kundai, Eisan Wali post in limits of PS Mehmood Kot and Lundi Pitafi post in precincts of PS Bait Meer Hazar Khan. People from nearby villages would also be able to avail the facility that has been introduced to ensure swift action on villagers’ complaints and protect life and property of the people, the DPO said.

Air Vice Marshal Zaeem calls on CM Bizenjo

QUETTA: Air Vice Marshal, Zaeem Afzal called on Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Chief Minister Balochistan at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Thursday.

Job opportunities to be provided to the youth of the province in Pakistan Air Force, services of PAF in educational and other sectors of the province and other issues of bilateral interest came under discussion during the meeting.

Conference deplores biased approach of US, Zionist regime against Muslims

KARACHI: Religious personalities of Iran and Pakistan strongly condemned the biased approach of global arrogance, including the one by United States and the Zionist regime, against Muslims, and warned against anti-unity conspiracies of common enemies.

A conference titled ‘Unity of the Islamic World to Combat Islamophobia’ was held on the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and his companions, hosted by the Culture Center of Iran in Karachi, the capital of Sindh Province, said a statement issued on Thursday.

Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Hojjatoleslam Hamid Shahriari and members of his delegation were special guests of event. Molavi Nazir Ahmad Salami, a member of Iranian Assembly of Experts, Hassan Nourian, the consul general of Iran in Karachi, Kamran Pezeshki, the director of Iranian Culture Center and senior leaders of political and religious parties in Karachi participated in the event.

Hojjatoleslam Hamid Shahriari as the main speaker of the program highlighting the importance of unity of Muslims and said the enemy is afraid of the formation of the Islamic Union. He said Unity of Muslims is the order of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Praising General Soleimani’s position and his sacrifice in the fight against terrorism, the Pakistani politician said terrorism has become a tool and source of income for the arrogant powers like the United States, so Muslims must wake up and do not allow the enemies to accomplish their plans.

Allama Seyed Ahmad Iqbal Razvi, the deputy secretary general of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) said General Soleimani is a martyr of unity and confrontation with the enemies of Islam, and he should not be considered as belonging only to one nation or country.

Emphasizing the unity of the Islamic world against common enemies, especially US-Zionist conspiracies, he added that the weakness of Shias and Sunnis is detrimental to both sides, and the problem of Muslim societies today is prejudice, ignorance, takfir, and disregard for Islamic commonalities and values.

Criticizing the attitude of some Islamic and Arab rulers towards the evil moves of the Western powers, the Pakistani religious figure called for the effective action of Islamic states against the phenomenon of Islamophobia and the salvation of Muslims from the challenges ahead.

Kamran Pezeshki, the director of Iranian Culture Center, expressing his views said we honor the names and memories of martyrs Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mehdi Al-Mohandes in the fields of cultural diplomacy and resistance. He added Martyr Soleimani is one of the greatest and most important symbols of the culture of resistance in the international arena. “This high-ranking martyr also has a special place in Pakistan, and the honorable people of Pakistan, after his martyrdom, paid their respects to this martyr in various ways,” he said.

Sahibzadeh Abul Khair Zubair, the chairman of the National Solidarity Council of Pakistan, expressed satisfaction with the presence of the secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

Pakistan reports 1,085 COVID-19 cases in single day

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 1,085 COVID-19 cases in a single day, its highest tally in two months, as authorities warned of a fifth wave of infections and made preparations to try to contain the fast-spreading Omicron variant.

According to the latest figures shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), a total of 46,585 samples were tested during this period, out of which 1,085 turned out to be positive, showing a national positivity rate of 2.32% as compared to yesterday’s 1.8 percent.

The death toll from the pandemic climbed to 28,950 after five more patients succumbed to the viral disease in the past 24 hours. The number of COVID-19 patients in critical care in various hospitals across the country stands at 636.

Meanwhile, Head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Asad Umar on Wednesday had rejected the possibility of a complete lockdown in view of rising Omicron cases of Covid-19 variant in the country.

In a statement, Asad Umar had said that Omicron cases are increasing rapidly but the government has no plan to impose lockdown in the country. “There is no chance to impose another complete lockdown,” he had said and added the government is closely monitoring the new Covid-19 Omicron variant.
