20 injured as Mari Indus Express hits freight train in Sheikhupura

SHEIKHUPURA: Twenty people, including a train driver and his assistant, were injured when a passenger train hit a freight train at the Qila Sattar Shah Railway Station in Sheikhupura on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, Mari Indus Express 147 DE 6422 was on its way to Lahore from Mianwali when it collided with a freight train at the Qila Sattar Shah Railway Station. As a result, train driver Imran Sarwar, assistant driver Muhammad Bilal and 18 passengers’ sustained injuries.

Fifteen of the injured were given first aid on the spot while five critically injured were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for treatment.

The alleged negligence of the staff of the Qila Sattar Shah Railway Station was stated to be the cause of the accident, according to the railway sources.
