NAUNDERO: Three people were bitten by a stray dog near Jag Chowk here on Saturday night. They include Mahboob Bhatti, Rahmat Shah and Kabir Bhutto.
Bhatti was bitten in the face hence he was referred to Chandka Medical College Hospital as there are no emergency medical treatment facilities at the Government Hospital here which is claimed to be 100-bed capacity but all its beds remain empty due to lack of doctors and other medical facilities.
The affected people complained to media persons that there was no duty doctor at the Government Hospital, Naundero, hence they were provided first aid by a dispenser without administering anti-rabies vaccine.
They said that the constituency of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and MPA Faryal Talpur has been left at the mercy of their creator as there were no proper healthcare facilities in the hometown of Bhutto leaders which is always claimed to be the political Kibla of the ruling party.
They said they will not eat hospital buildings but they need essential medical facilities which are lacking in the hospital for the past 14 years for which no concrete efforts have so far been taken to fulfill its requirements despite massive media reports. They asked where they should go during night time when there was no duty doctor to provide emergency treatment and management. They demanded provision of all required facilities or else, they warned, they would hold protest demonstrations seeking their basic rights.
Dr. Rahmatullah Shaikh, Medical Superintendent (MS), Government Hospital, said that the District Health Officer, Larkana, has already been sent a list of shortfalls in the hospital in November which also include acute shortage of doctors, other staff and equipment but so far nothing has been done. He said that previous MS also wrote several letters even to higher authorities but without any fruitful result till to date. He said he can only write to the government and has no further powers to pressurize them. He said that almost all the bed of the hospital are empty due to unavailability of required facilities.
