Sugar crises in Punjab-KP have made sugar more expensive: Wassan

KARACHI: Adviser to CM on Agriculture Manzoor Wassan held the federal government responsible for making sugar expensive in the country.

Wassan said in a statement that there was no sugar crisis in Sindh Province as sugar stock was available for one and half month, adding the federal government exported cheap sugar under the pretext of surplus.

Wassan said that the rising sugar crises in Punjab and KP had made sugar more expensive. He said that Sindh had a stock of 92,767,129 metric tonnes of sugar, while the Imran government had failed to control inflation, adding the sugar was being made expensive by the mafias who had been funding selectors during meetings and sit-ins.

Wassan said that sugar mills in Sindh would start operating next week, while legal action will be taken against mill owners who do not run sugar mills. He said that Punjab had fixed the per capita support price of sugarcane at Rs 225, Sindh at Rs 250. The PPP has given higher per capita support price of sugarcane and wheat to the farmers compared to Punjab.
