LARKANA: The Inquiry Committee constituted by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Larkana Range, Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh, headed by SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh of Kashmore @ Kandhkot district, has found the SHO, Akil @ Pir Sher police station, SIP Talib Hussain Junejo, responsible for cowardice and mismanagement during the police encounter in which two policemen were martyred including ASI Muzaffar Khoso, constable Nawab Jatoi, one alleged criminal Riaz alias Rajoo Mahar was gunned down and another was injured on 13the December.2021 in Wada Mahar village.
The Committee recommended “punishment, preferably dismissal from service, to SIP Talib Hussain Junejo, the then SHO PS Akil for his cowardice, mismanagement and ill-planning during the raid for which police suffered such a great loss”. The committee recommended “fair and impartial investigation of FIR No. 36/2021 U/S 302, 353, 324, 225, 404, 427, 148, 149 PPC, 6/7 ATA of Bakapur police station of Larkana”.
The committee also recommended that “SSP Larkana shall be directed to make some more serious efforts to arrest the accused involved in the FIR No. 36/2021”. The Committee was of the conclusion that “to prevent the recurrence of police losses a proper implementation of the SOPs that are already drafted for conducting such raids in which serious resistance is expected need to be adhered adding a refresher course at the police lines may be arranged to educate the SHOs and DSPs of such SOPs”, the report added.
The committee concluded by recommending that “an extensive search and sweep operation shall be undertaken in the area of Wada Mahar adding the area had been regularly challenging the writ of law and needed operation in a planned way to reestablish the writ of Larkana police in the area”.
The committee pointed out that the progress made by the District Larkana police in this important case is unsatisfactory because no one out of 15 accused nominated in the FIR has so far been arrested. The report said that the martyrdom of police officials was reported to SSP after a lapse of two hours. The committee found that the raid was totally ill-planned and mismanaged by SIP Talib Junejo who was leading it, adding the timing of the raid chosen by him was totally unwarranted and destined to bring losses for the police.
SIP Talin Junejo in his statement claimed that he had secured permission of the raid from the SSP after telling him that absconders, some criminals involved in bike snatching are present in the village. Other members of the committee include Tanveer Tunio, SSP Shikarpur, Inspectors Miran Khan Durrani and Yaseen Tagar.
