Right to Self-Determination Day being observed by Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD: Right to Self-Determination Day is being observed by Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and the world over today (Wednesday).

It was on the 5th of January 1949, when the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution supporting the Kashmiris’ right to decide their future by themselves through UN-sponsored plebiscite.

To mark the Day, various activities including rallies, seminars and conferences are being held across the world to remind the UN that it must implement its relevant resolutions to settle the Kashmir dispute to save the Kashmiris from the Indian brutalities. In Muzaffarabad, the main function in connection with the Day, was held under the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell.

The leadership of various political parties participated in the function to covey a strong message to the world community and remind UN Security Council to fulfill its pledge made with people of Kashmir in 1949. Later, the participants marched towards the UN Observer Mission office in Muzaffarabad.
