Residents demands action against pollution

LARKANA:The residents of kachi abadi called new Shaikh Zaid Colony held a large protest demonstration in front of local press club here on Sunday against environmental pollution being spread by two rice mills. They were holding placards in their hands and chanted slogans in favour of their just demand.

Saud Chandio, Waheed, Manzoor, Nadim Hussain and others told media persons that since several years Mehran Rice Mills and Rahman Rice Mills have been emitting ash and rice particles, smoke, mud and other contaminated things which have ruined their lives apart from causing the worst polluted atmosphere.

They said the residents of the area have been infected with deadly diseases such as TB, asthma, eye and other lung diseases. They said we have made several complaints against the owners of the two mills to the relevant police stations but nothing has yet come out and the residents continue to face hardships. They said the worst affected are the ailing men, women and children who cannot bear the dangers of ash particles.

They said they are being harassed by the influential rice millers through the Waleed police station cops but their complaints are not being heard by the police. They demanded installation of filters in the mills and stern legal action against those who are involved in the worst environmental pollution.
