Ratodero: The members of the Rice Millers Workers Union held a large protest demonstration in front of the local press club against massive inflation and unemployment.
The protesters including Comrade Meenhal Ansari, Murtaza Korai, Mukhtiar Abbasi, Mukhtiar Joyo, Shakil Jalbani, Khalid Solangi and others alleged while talking with newsmen that rulers have lent the country with international financial institutions and the present government has failed to provide any relief to the poverty-ridden masses, according to a statement released today.
They said the IMF loan has brought an unprecedented price hike in the country because of which the poor cannot afford to have 2-times food and a starvation-like situation is prevailing in the homes of labourers. They said due to the hike in petrol prices, rates of all essential kitchen items have sky-rocketed including vegetables on one hand and on the other privatization has brought joblessness but their wages are still the same despite tall claims by the provincial government of Sindh which has fixed Rs25000 minimum wages for a labourer during the current financial year but they have so far failed to implement their own decision since July 2021 which is unjust.
They demanded reduction of petrol prices and controlling of historic inflation so that the poor should also be able to survive. They said employment opportunities must also be increased not only for the labourers but also for the educated youth.
