Larkana’s cleanliness issue still unresolved

LARKANA: Cleanliness issue of Larkana city has not yet been resolved despite strict orders by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during his recent visit to 20 Union Committees (UCs) after which he directed the Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to maintain cleanliness in the city but so far without any fruitful result.

Begum Nusrat Bhutto Government Girls Degree College Road, SIUT Road, Nazar Muhalla, Bhains Colony and others are a vivid proof of overflowing sewage and piles of garbage which has not yet been removed due to which residents are facing serious troubles and environmental hazards causing spread of deadly diseases as well.

In the locality called Lohi Pul, located within the UC-4 Ward No. 3, a large sewage drain has not yet been cleaned since a year despite repeated protests and written complaints by the citizens of the area to the relevant authorities which has made their lives miserable as sewerage water is overflowing from the drain which has ruined their daily routine works.

Sikander Jatoi, Mithal Chandio, Ahmed Ali Khushk, Niaz Buledi, Munwar Dayo and others again protested in the area on Sunday demanding cleaning of the huge sewage drain. They alleged that overflowing hazardous wastewater is entering their homes and the residents cannot go out of their houses even for offering prayers. They said the worst affected are womenfolk and girls who cannot go to their schools to get education in the morning due to stagnant sewage.

They said that we have made several complaints in writing to deputy commissioner, municipal corporation authorities and UC secretary but all in vain. They demanded either regular cleaning of the drain must be ensured or it should be shifted to save their and their children’s lives.
