Maulana Tariq Jamil condemns act of cruelty against lynched Sri Lankan national

ISLAMABAD: Noted religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil met the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Islamabad Mohan Wijewickrama here at the embassy of Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

He expressed grief at the lynching of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara by a charged mob in Sialkot on December 3. “The whole nation is ashamed at this ugly act of cruelty”, he regretted.

Maulana Tariq Jamil said that according to the Holy Quran, killing of an innocent person was tantamount to killing the entire humanity. Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Ashrafi was also present at the occasion.

Priyantha Kumara, a senior manager at a factory in Sialkot, was tortured to death earlier this month by hundreds of protesters, including the factory employees, and his body was later burnt over allegations of blasphemy.
